Mario Zoots

Mario Zoots is a mixed-media artist whose practice interrogates the boundaries of collage, appropriation, and visual culture. Reconfiguring found imagery into compositions that feel both nostalgic and uncanny, his work reflects a deep engagement with the detritus of mass media, transforming the overlooked into evocative visual narratives. With degrees from the University of Denver and Metropolitan State University, Zoots’ work has been exhibited internationally and featured in publications like The Age of Collage. He is also an active teacher, curator, and creative thought leader.

Statement from the Artist

For this series, Zoots sourced imagery from vintage Colorado Magazine issues, which offered a rich visual archive of sweeping landscapes, roadside attractions, and nostalgic advertisements revealing the aspirations and aesthetics of a bygone era. Using collage to disrupt the original context, the works explore how memory and place intersect, resulting in compositions that are at once familiar and strangely new. In total, Zoots created 107 unique collage artworks, one featured in each guestroom.
